How does Lucerne's tax compare to Zug?

Can I live in Lucerne and work in Zug or Zurich?

Yes — Zug is 25 minutes by direct train and Zurich HB is roughly 45 minutes. Many people work in Zug for the salary uplift and live in Lucerne for the rental supply and lakeside lifestyle. You pay your tax at your home canton's rate.

Is Lucerne worth it given the tourism?

The city centre is genuinely overrun May–September — locals avoid the Kapellbrücke / Schwanenplatz axis on weekends. But Lucerne is much more than its old town: Horw, Kriens, Meggen, Adligenswil and the Rigi/Pilatus slopes give you the lake without the buses. Most residents adapt within their first summer.

Do I need German to live in Lucerne?

English works in the international layer (HSLU programmes, the larger employers) but everything else runs in Swiss German (Lozärnerdütsch). Plan A2 within your first year — the Einwohnerkontrolle, doctors, schools and Suva all assume German.

Is Lucerne good for families?
