Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
HowToSwiss is built with privacy as a default, not a feature. This page explains what personal data we process and what we do not.
Data controller and contact
HowToSwiss is operated by Mohammed Ali, Bülach, Switzerland. For privacy questions or requests (access, correction, deletion), contact us at info@howtoswiss.app or via the contact page. Full legal disclosure on the Impressum.
No account is required
You do not need to create an account to use HowToSwiss, its guides, checklists or tools. We only process personal data when you choose to provide it, for example by subscribing to the newsletter or contacting us.
Your checklist progress stays in your browser
When you tick off items on a checklist, your progress is saved only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to our servers, and we cannot view, retrieve or restore this data. Clearing your browser data will reset your progress.
Newsletter
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address and optional first name to send updates. Our newsletter provider, Resend, processes this information to deliver newsletters on our behalf. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
We retain newsletter subscription data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, unless a longer retention period is legally required.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, operated by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, to understand in aggregate which guides and tools are useful so we can improve them. Consent for analytics is managed through Google's consent management platform (Google's European regulations message, delivered via Google's ad services). Until you grant consent, Google's Consent Mode keeps analytics storage in a denied state, so no analytics cookies are written.
- Legal basis: your consent, collected via Google's consent message. The default state is denied.
- Cookies set after consent:
_gaand_ga_*. - IP handling: IP addresses are truncated / anonymised before processing.
- International transfer: data may be transferred to and processed in the United States by Google LLC under Google's standard contractual safeguards.
- More information: see Google's privacy policy and our Cookie Policy.
You can change or withdraw consent at any time via the Privacy and cookie settings link in the footer, which reopens Google's consent message.
Advertising — Google AdSense and third-party vendors
HowToSwiss is funded by display advertising delivered through Google AdSense. The following disclosures apply:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies — including the DART cookie — enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to HowToSwiss and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and may use their own cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to measure ad performance and to personalise advertising.
- Ad serving may involve processing of your IP address, device and browser information, approximate location and interaction data, and may involve transfers to the United States and other countries under Google's standard contractual safeguards.
- Legal basis: your consent, collected through Google's certified consent management platform (the European regulations message). Until consent is given, Consent Mode keeps
ad_storageandad_user_datain a denied state and no personalised advertising cookies are set.
How to opt out of personalised advertising
- Use the Privacy and cookie settings link in our footer to reopen the consent message and withdraw or change your choices at any time.
- Opt out of personalised Google ads in Google My Ad Center (formerly Ads Settings). Users may opt out of Google's use of the DART cookie via the Google advertising and cookies policy.
- Opt out of many third-party vendors at once via aboutads.info, the NAI opt-out page or Your Online Choices (EU).
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or browse in private mode. Blocking cookies does not stop ads being shown — it stops them being personalised.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to Swiss financial, insurance or mobility providers may be affiliate links, meaning we can earn a commission if you sign up. Affiliate links never influence which providers are recommended, and any commercial relationship is labelled on the page. Affiliate partners may set a cookie to attribute a referral; we do not receive your personal data from them.
Children
HowToSwiss is intended for adults handling Swiss relocation admin. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
