General information only
Everything published on HowToSwiss — guides, checklists, canton pages, comparison tables and calculators — is general information for orientation. It is not legal, tax, immigration, insurance, medical or investment advice, and no client, advisory or fiduciary relationship is created by using this site.
Calculators produce estimates, not assessments
Our tools — including the tax calculator, salary calculator, relocation cash calculator, health insurance estimator and capital gains tax tool — are simplified models. They use published federal and cantonal rates plus typical communal multipliers, and they deliberately leave out many real-world factors:
- your exact commune's tax multiplier and church tax status;
- your employer's specific BVG (second pillar) plan and insured salary definition;
- wealth tax, imputed rental value, property, capital and foreign income;
- cross-border and double-taxation treaty rules (for example G-permit commuters);
- split-year arrivals or departures, self-employment, and special cantonal reliefs.
The only binding figures are those issued by your cantonal tax office, your insurer, your pension fund and your employer's payroll. Never make a financial, contractual or relocation decision based on a HowToSwiss estimate alone.
Rules and numbers change
Swiss federal law, cantonal tax multipliers, health-insurance premiums, permit fees and deadlines change — often annually. We review content regularly and cite official sources (admin.ch, Fedlex, SEM, ESTV/AFC, BAG, ASTRA and cantonal offices) so you can verify each figure at source. Even so, we make no warranty that content is accurate, complete or current at the moment you read it.
No professional relationship
HowToSwiss is an independent editorial publication. It is not a law firm, tax advisor, insurance broker, financial intermediary or relocation agency, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of any Swiss authority. For advice on your own situation, consult a licensed professional or the competent authority.
External links and third-party content
We link to cantonal portals, federal sources and service providers for convenience. We do not control those sites and accept no responsibility for their content, pricing, availability or data practices. Advertising displayed on HowToSwiss is served by third parties and does not constitute an endorsement — see our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies are handled.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Swiss law, HowToSwiss and its operator accept no liability for any loss or damage — including missed deadlines, tax penalties, rejected applications or financial loss — arising from use of, or reliance on, this site or its tools. Full terms are set out in our Terms of Use.
